Notes on Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Colonization ☣ If you refuse a Founding Father, they will never offer to join you again. ☣ Wagon Trains can be transported in ships, as long as they’re unladen. Use the Load button (hotkey L), from the main screen. ☣ You can change professions by double-clicking immigrants at the Europe docks. This allows you to buy horses/tools/guns without taking up cargo space. ☣ Jesuit Missionaries can be trained at a school. Instead of using “normal” missionaries, wait for your first Jesuit Missionary, put him in a city with a school, and churn out Jesuit Missionaries. However, considering the 500 gold training fee, you might prefer training Elder Statesmen instead. ☣ While it might be tempting to “hurry immigrant”, doing this is, in effect, equal to buying immigration “Crosses”. Since the number of Crosses required increase per immigrant, buying Crosses early on, as opposed to hiring directly, gives you less immigrants in the long run. ☣ Like Crosses, the number of education “Books” required to train an Expert increase each time. You might want to refrain from training Converted Natives, who give a bonus on resource gathering. Also, there’s a Founding Father that gives an added movement point to Converted Natives, making them ideal pioneers.
