The Gargoyle Virtues

Prior to the end of The Age of Enlightenment, the Gargoyle race was known to Man as Daemons.

When The Quest of the Avatar was completed and The Codex of Ultimate Wisdom was raised from the Stygian Abyss, it was in fact stolen from the Gargoyles. This act, and the subsequent destruction of the Underworld, home of the Gargoyles, when the Avatar rescued Lord British from the Shadowlord’s imprisonment, were as foretold in the Gargish Book of Prophecy as the end of the Gargish race.

The only way to prevent the coming Apoclypse was to sacrifice the False Prophet – the Avatar.

The Avatar, stubbornly refusing to die, even to save an entire race, journeyed to the remnants of the Underworld to parley with the Gargoyles. He finally returned the Codex to the Ethereal Void, to be shared between Man and Gargoyle. With peace between the races, the Gargoyles settled on Sutek’s Island, where once stood the Castle of Lord Blackthorn, averting their foretold doom. The island was later renamed Terfin.

The Book of Circles

All begins with the three principles: Control, Passion and Diligence.

From Control springs Direction. From Passion springs Feeling. From Diligence springs Persistence.

But these three virtues are no more important than the other five:

Control combines with Passion to give Balance. Passion combines with Diligence to yield Achievement. And Diligence joins with Control to provide Precision.

The absence of Control, Passion and Diligence is Chaos. Thus the absence of the principles points toward the seventh virtue, Order.

The three principles unify to form Singularity. This is the eighth virtue, but it is also the first, because within Singularity can be found all the principles, and thus all the virtues.

A circle has no end. It continues forever, with all parts equally important in the success of the whole. Our society is the same. It too continues forever, with all members (and all virtues) equal parts of the unified whole.
