Hireling & Pet Orders
- [301101] [Context Sensitive Menus] Context-sensitive menus are new menus players can use to access the various functionalities available on creatures and NPCs, such as accessing the shopkeeper interface, being trained by an NPC, ordering a pet to attack, or opening your bank box from a banker.
- The following NPC types can be hired; Bard, Beggar, Fighter, Paladin, Peasant, Pirate, Ranger, Sailor and Thief.
- NPCs tend to refuse to attack humans without reason. However, if ordered to “Guard”, they will defend you if whoever you attack retaliates.
- Pets may refuse to obey orders if your Animal Lore is too low.
- You used to be able to “Transfer” the pet to a Ranger with high Animal Lore, and have him “Friend” the pet to you. This was fixed on 23022k.
- Both NPCs and Pets may not attack a creature more powerful than they are.
- To use a command, say the name of the NPC or Pet followed by the order.
- You can say “All” instead of their names to give the order to everybody. Saying “All” does not work with commands that require targetting, unless you only have one pet.
| Command | Effect |
NPC, Hire, Mercenary, Servant, Work | Replies with the cost of hiring. Give her the money to hire. |
NPC, Report | Replies with their feelings about working for you. Use the Animal Lore skill to check a Pet’s happiness. |
Good Pet | Moves as if happy. Used to see an example response to a successful command. This does not improve loyalty. |
Pet, Speak | Makes a sound. |
NPC/Pet/All, Release | If you wish to let your follower once again enjoy freedom, use the release command. This will free the animal, and it will no longer respond to your commands. You will gain no skill points for retaming a released creature. |
NPC/Pet/All, Attack, Kill | Attack another being. Using this command will bring up a targeting cursor. Select the being you wish to attack, and if your follower is loyal and the being is not too strong, she will attempt the attack. |
NPC/Pet/All, Come | Tells your follower to come to your position. |
NPC/Pet/All, Drop | Tells your follower to drop whatever she is carrying. The items will drop on the ground, so be sure that you are in an area where you will be able to retrieve the items safely. |
NPC/Pet/All, Fetch, Get, Bring | Allows your follower to pick up an item and bring it back to you. Using this command will bring up a targeting cursor. Select the item you wish your follower to bring back. You will need to issue the drop command for your follower to bring back the item. If the follower has a full inventory, they may not be able to bring back an item for you. |
NPC/Pet/All, Follow | Tells your follower to follow someone. Using this command will bring up a targeting cursor. Select the player you wish your follower to follow. |
NPC/Pet/All, Follow me | Follows you. |
NPC/Pet/All, Friend | Allows other players to give your follower orders. Using this command will bring up a targeting cursor. Select the player from which you wish to allow your follower to receive orders. If the follower is loyal, it will now receive commands from that player. [23022k] Friends of a pet will have a slightly more difficult time issuing commands to the pet. |
NPC/Pet/All, Guard | Guards target. Only the owner and the corpse of the owner may be guarded. |
NPC/Pet/All, Guard me | Guards you. |
NPC/Pet/All, Move | Moves a step. |
NPC/Pet/All, Patrol | Commands your follower to patrol the general area in which it currently resides. If your follower is loyal, it will patrol the area and attack intruders. |
NPC/Pet/All, Stay, Stop | Tells your follower to remain at its current location. Your follower will cease to follow anyone they may have been following. |
NPC/Pet/All, Transfer | Allows you to transfer the ownership of your follower. Using this command will bring up a targeting cursor. Select the player to which you wish to give the follower. If your follower accepts the new owner, you will no longer own the follower and the person you have selected will be the new owner. See Secure Pet Trading. |
