General Latest Game Update :: Server Publish
Escort Changes
Escorting will be balanced (ie. screwed) to bring it more in line with other gold generating methods.
  • You may only have one escort at a time. Townspeople requesting escort will not travel with someone who is already escorting.
    • If you attempt to escort a second NPC, you will be told, “I see you already have an escort”.
  • You will have to wait approximately 15 to 25 minutes between each escort.
    • If you attempt to escort an NPC before this time passes, the NPC will tell you, “You should rest from your last escort before we set out on this journey.”
    • Escorts will let you know approximately how much time you must wait before you can take another escort again.
Pack Animals
  • Pack horses and pack llamas will have their carrying capacity increased from 400 to 1,600 stones.
  • If a pack horse goes wild, it will eventually drop whatever it is carrying if it is not retamed.
Monster & Animal Spawn
  • Monsters in invalid or unreachable locations will “die” after a certain amount of time. A monster will be eligible for “death” if it has not been targeted or has not received or delivered damage within a given period of time.
  • In order to support IGM events and quests, this change will not affect monsters/animals in houses at this time. However, the current rules regarding trapping monsters and animals in houses still apply. In a future update, we do plan on making untamed monsters and animals “die” in this manner regardless of whether they are in a house or not.
Homes :: Info, Options & Commands Clean Up Britannia (Phase III)
The final phase in the Clean Up Britannia program will be the implementation of item decay in houses.
  • Once in effect, house item decay will affect all items that are not
    • Placed in a secure container.
    • Locked down.
    • A house add-on (such as an anvil or a loom).
    • Placed by an IGM or GM.
  • The decay rate will be the same as with items outside.
  • Items on the deck of boats will decay as well. Items in the hold will not be subject to decay.
House Placement Changes
The system will now do thorough checks to ensure that houses are not placed outside of the house placement rules. The new house placement system includes the following:
  • Various checks to ensure the house meets the housing requirements, including whether it is on level ground.
  • Provides the ability to preview an area with the deed to see if the area is valid.
    • Once a position is chosen, you will be told whether the area is a valid location or not.
    • If the area is valid, you will be asked if you wish to place the house.
    • If the area is not valid, you will be given a message telling you why not and you will not be able to place the house in that location.
The following was added:
  • The following plants will not block the placement of a house:
    • All mushrooms
    • All small flowers
    • Poppies
    • Red poppies
    • Orfluer flowers
    • White flowers
    • Foxglove flowers
    • Campion Flowers
    • Snowdrops
Land Surveying Tool
This tool will allow players to check land without have to buy a house deed, thus allowing multiple people in a group to search different locations. To use the tool:
  • Double-click the surveying tool.
  • A window will appear listing the different house types, select the house type you wish to check.
  • A small description of the house type and the number of lockdowns it can hold will appear.
  • To evaluate the area, click the “E” in the window.
  • The house type you selected will appear in front of you. Move the house to the location you want to test and single-click.
  • You will receive a message telling you whether the area can hold that house type.
    • If the area is acceptable, a temporary house of the type you selected will appear for approximately 10 seconds to let you see what a house would look like in that location.
    • If the area is not acceptable, then you will simply receive a message telling you that the house type will not fit.
Skills :: Skills Menu Taming Changes
The following changes to taming animals and monsters were made to fix some outstanding issues;
  • A fix for pet commands including the “pet friend bug”.
  • Saying “stop” to your pet will clear any previous commands.
  • Pets will remember who their previous owners were. Previous owners are anyone who has tamed the pet or has the pet transferred to them.
    • The more previous owners a pet has had, the more difficult it will be for other players to tame it if it goes wild. This also means that players who were not a previous owner to the pet can tame the pet for skill gain.
    • Any previous owner may retame the pet regardless of their skill.
  • Pets that go wild will become more difficult to control. This change will affect both previous and new owners.
  • If line-of-sight is broken during the taming process, the attempt will automatically fail.
  • When transferring a pet to another player, the previous owner and the new owner will now receive the proper confirmation messages.
  • Pets will now only guard their owner’s corpse.
  • Fixes for various messages with relation to pet commands. Tamers who give commands to their pets that the pet does not follow will find that their pets will go wild faster than previously.
Rares Holiday Trees
Holiday tress have been deactivated;
  • All existing trees will turn back to deeds. These deeds will not decay with the implementation of House Item Decay.
  • Players will no longer be able to place holiday trees.
Characters Skill & Stat Advancement Changes
  • Advancement in “non-difficulty” based skills at higher levels and advancement in stats will be improved. The effect of this change will result in fewer required uses of the skill to advance it at high levels and better, more evenly curved stat gains.
  • The following skills will be affected by the modification to skill advancement:
  • Stat advancement will now raise at a more constant, consistent rate. All skills will raise their appropriate stats (including combat skills) and you will be able to gain stats consistently regardless of the level of the skill, rather than only when reaching a high level in that skill.
  • Each skill will raise its appropriate stats. For skills that raise multiple stats, some stats are weighted more heavily than others. Therefore, stat gains from skills such as these will be based on how much weight is given to the individual stats. For instance, Anatomy will raise INT more often, though it still has a chance to raise STR and DEX.
Bugs Various Issues
  • A fix for the exploit involving banning summoned pets or creatures so they will attack passersby.
  • An issue with trading and using ingots through trade windows will be resolved.
  • You will not be able to snoop pack animals inside a house, while the animal was outside.
  • You will no longer be able to use the stealing skill to determine if someone is “perma-gray”.
  • Players who are not in the Thieves’ Guild will not be able to steal from other players at all.
    • You cannot steal from blues, reds, grays, guild members, or guilds you are at war with unless you are in the Thieves’ Guild.
× Note that…
  • Issues with smithing difficulty being higher than normal will be resolved.
…is not in this Patch, and has been removed from Testing From Next Update.
Pre-Casting
The bug involving the ability to “pre-cast” spells and then use or take items will be fixed. After casting a spell, the targeting cursor will cancel if the player does any of the following;
  • Equips or unequips an item.
  • Takes an item.
  • Drags an item from their backpack.

In the near future, modern houses that do not conform with the house placement rules listed on the Ultima Online website will lose certain functionality, and may become subject to further restrictions in the future as well. While these houses will not be deleted, improperly placed houses will not have access to all of the features that other houses have. The exact nature of these restrictions will be posted at a later date and we recommend that you keep reading the Ultima Online website for more information. Modern houses placed using a bug, placed completely off of the ground, in illegal locations such as those placed on top of other buildings, on top of hedges or trees, and inside or blocking interest points (such as dungeons, graveyards, etc.) may still be subject to deletion. We reserve the right to delete any future houses placed using exploits or bugs.

We have published the shards with an update that will let all players determine if a house is improperly placed. You can now determine if a house is improperly placed by double-clicking the house sign. Owners, co-owners, and friends of the house will receive a message on the bottom of the house sign window letting them know whether the house is properly placed or not. Other players may also double-click the house sign and will receive a red message in the lower left corner of their screen. There are four possible messages:

We strongly recommend that, before agreeing to purchase a house from another player, you visit it and use this method to ensure that it is properly placed, or that you know it is “improperly placed” and you are not concerned about upcoming restrictions. Again, modern houses that are defined as “improperly placed” are not subject to deletion, but they will be subject to restricted functionality in the future. All buyers and homeowners should make themselves aware of the newest information available on these subjects by referring to the Ultima Online website.

To facilitate plotlines currently running in Ultima Online, magical attacks have been enabled in select towns throughout Britannia. As magic will now do damage in these select towns, we recommend you use caution when casting spells. This change does not affect the reactions of guards to attacks by players on innocent adventurers; when called they will still react swiftly to protect the victim.

× More GM Fishermen, joy oh joy, like the market has not gotten totally saturated already.
× Everyone will have their own Treasure Hunter, so those Hunters for Hire have just lost their niche.

SunSword – There may be some minor or temporary changes to housing during the first phase of UO:Renaissance, expect to see offical plans for that and a feedback period where we can analyze what you think.
One of the things I would really like to hear feedback on is this idea:
Remove small house deeds and replace them with deeds for a different house, one that is about the same size, but has two rooms (maybe too floors).
The reason for this idea is to relieve the pressure players feel to have two houses, one public, and one private, becuase the small house only has one room. Send me your thoughts (sunsword@uo.com) on that.

General FYI
We will be publishing the features listed in Testing for the Next Update to the servers starting today with the Pacific Shard. The features will be active on Pacific after the shard returns from its Wednesday morning maintenance. We will then monitor the shard throughout the day for any issues. If all goes well, we will update the publish to the other shards. The features will be active on the North American shards after they return from their Thursday morning maintenance (local server time). The Korean, European, Taiwanese, Japanese, and Siege Perilous shards will have the publish activated after they return from their Friday morning maintenance (local server time).

It is very important to note that this publish contains Phase III of Clean up Britannia, which will activate item decay in houses and boats. Any items not locked down, in a secure container, or in the hold of a boat will decay. This decay will start the moment the shard returns from maintenance. If you have any items in your house or boat that you do not wish to lose, you must place them in a safe location before the servers restart with the publish activated.

What’s New
Be warned! In the course of the plotline currently running in Ultima Online, occasional changes may take place within the world of Britannia without advance notice. The rules of civilized Britannia may change greatly at any moment. For example, more towns may allow the casting of magic within sight of the guards. It is our hope to weave an involving plotline for all of Britannia, and as such, we will not always provide advance warning on many of the changes taking place in the future. × Let’s point out the flaws in the system;
× How are you going to carry 100k in gold from the bank to the house ?
× What’s to stop the seller from PKing you and taking the rares you’re buying the house with ?
× The only use of this new system seems to be that you can trade three house deeds for a placed house, and that is kinda lame, considering that the seller cannot be assured that the deed is worth what the buyer says it is, and you cannot say, come up to 110k worth of gold in house deeds.
