Looting Rights Changes
Looting rights that affect both Trammel and Felluca interaction will be changed to the following:

On Trammel:
  • Guildmates will be lootable to each other.
  • Thieves’ Guild members will be lootable by all.
  • Criminal corpses will be lootable by all.
  • Murderer corpses will be lootable by all.
  • Those that had lawful damage done to them by the looter. Note that this means a member of a warring guild will not be able to loot opposing guild members unless he actually did lawful damage to that character.
  • Those in the same faction will not be able to loot each other. The exception to this is if they are in the same party, with looting rights turned on. As long as the deceased character does not receive any lawful damage his faction-mates in the party can loot him. For example, if a character is killed by a monster, a player outside of the faction wars, etc., his faction mates in the party will be able to loot him.
Lawful Damage is defined as consensual combat from enemy guild members, enemy virtue guild members, and enemy faction members. Lawful damage is also justified damage returned by a player against an unlawful aggressor. For example: if player A attacked player B, and neither were in any guilds parties or factions, then player A would be aggressor. Player B could then return the attack which would be called “lawful damage”. If player A and Player B were in opposing guilds or factions, then player A’s initial attack would be lawful damage.

Only a player with looting rights will be able to open a corpse on Trammel.

On Felluca:
  • Guildmates will be lootable to each other.
  • Thieves’ Guild members will be lootable by all.
  • Criminals will be lootable by all.
  • Murderer corpses will be lootable by all.
  • Those lawfully damaged by the looter. Only the players who did lawful damage will be able to loot the corpse without going grey. Note that this means a member of a warring guild will not be able to loot opposing guild members without going grey unless he actually did lawful damage to that character.
  • Those in the same faction will be able to loot each other, however, they will criminally flagged if they do so. As in Trammel, the exception to this is if they are in the same party, with looting rights turned on. As long as the deceased character does not receive any lawful damage, his faction-mates in the party can loot him freely. For example, if a character is killed by a monster, a player outside of the faction wars, etc., his faction mates in the party will be able to loot him without getting a criminal flag. However, if a player receives any lawful damage in a faction war (i.e.: from opposing factions) then any faction mate of his will receive a criminal flag if he tries to loot.
Opening a corpse by someone without looting rights will trigger a warning message that looting this corpse would be a criminal act. Removing items from this corpse without looting rights will result in the looter becoming criminally flagged.
Changes and Fixes
  • You will no longer be able to cut up player corpses on the Trammel facet.
  • Haven’s zoning will be changed to prevent non-young players from being able to sail near Haven and become ejected from their boats.
Homes :: Info, Options & Commands Lockdown Changes
The circumstances under which lockdowns may be “used” will be updated with the following changes:
  • Resources that are used by “targeting” will no longer be useable when locked down. These items include ingots, boards, logs, and shafts.
  • All items that are locked down will be useable only by the owner, co-owner, or friends of the house in which they are locked down, the only exception being that items which have another locked down item on top of them will not be able to be used, or released until the item above them is released.
  • Items which can be used by visitors when locked down are:
    • Runebooks will allow visitors to add recall scrolls to them, otherwise they will work as before.
    • Purple Books can only be read when locked down. All others will be able to be edited by visitors.
    • Visitors will be able to use locked down dyes in a house.
    • Visitors will be able to use locked down dye tubs is a house. Dye tubs must be unlocked before the color of the dye can be changed.
  • It will no longer be possible to lock down a “stacked” item unless all items beneath it are locked down. Additionally, it will no longer be possible to lock down “valueless” items such as new player clothing and death robes.

We’ve received reports of a several recent “password surfing” emails being sent out to Ultima Online customers. Please be aware that no Origin Systems, Inc. employee will ever ask for your UO password under any circumstances. Should you be contacted via email, IRC, or an Internet messaging program by someone claiming to be an OSI employee, do not give out your password.

Homes :: Info, Options & Commands FYI :: “Condemned” Housing Reminder –
You may not place multiple houses on a shard, for any reason, without permanently condemning any current houses you own on that shard. Condemned houses may not be refreshed.

If you own multiple houses on a shard and place an additional house, whether for yourself or a friend, or have a house transferred to you for any reason, all remaining houses owned on that shard by any character on your account will become condemned. Regardless of your motives in placing or accepting transfer of an additional house, we will not change the condemned status of your houses.

General Latest Game Update
Stuck Player Options
An option will be added to assist stuck players. This feature will work in the following manner:

When a player selects the stuck option in the help menu, after a short time they will get a menu of certain cities that they will be able to be transported to via this system. The amount of time required to wait for this menu after placing the stuck call will be different each time, within certain unannounced ranges. If the stuck player is in the Second Age area, they will be able to go to one of the two cities there. If the player is not in the Second Age area, they will get a menu with the pre-determined cities of Britain, Yew, Trinsic, Minoc, Vesper and Cove. Selecting a city will transport the character to a designated area in that city.

These factors will also affect this new system:
  • Murderers will not be given the city menu, instead they will be transported to the chaos shrine.
  • Players will only be able to use this option twice per day.
  • Cancelling the stuck call will not use up one of the player’s daily uses.
  • Characters will not be able to move while the city menu is displayed. If they cancel the menu, the character will then be able to move. If the player does not make a selection after 3 minutes, the character will be able to move again and the menu will disappear.
  • If the player makes more then 2 stuck calls per day, the stuck call will go into the Gamemaster help queue as normal.
  • Players in combat (attacking or being attacked) will not get the new stuck option. Instead, their stuck call will go into the Gamemaster help queue as normal.

× Exploitable? Mayhaps. But no more than Recall was before the “no recall for aggressors” patch. This sounds like a good thing – after all, I waited seven hours to get a GM before.
General Fixes and Updates
  • Vendor pricing issues with containers will be resolved.
  • Ban option on houses will function properly.
  • House add-on items will no longer leave residue when being deleted.
Skills :: Trade Menu Blacksmithing changes
Blacksmithy will receive a new interface menu, similar to the tinkering menu. The menu will contain the following options:
  • Make Last – will attempt to make the last item selected.
  • Smelt Item – will prompt to smelt an item into ingots.
  • Repair Item – will prompt with a target to attempt a repair.
  • Prompt for Maker’s Mark – there will be a toggle for the Maker’s Mark. The three settings for the toggle are 1) Always do mark, 2) prompt for mark, 3) never do mark. (You will still need the required skill in order to place a maker’s mark on an item).

Top of Page Communication Crystals Deactivated – 11th Aug 2k
General FYI :: Communication Crystals Deactivated –
Due to issues with communication crystals it will be necessary to deactivate their functions. The crystals will no longer send messages to other crystals and you will not be able to change their status (active or inactive). We will reactivate the crystals once we have resolved the issue and will update you again once we have done so. The messaging feature for crystals will be inactive later today and the ability to change their status will be deactivated after the servers return from their next scheduled maintenance.

Communication Crystals were reactivated on [06092k].

Bugs Latest Game Update
Stealing Changes
Players will again be able to steal random items from players without getting the “too heavy to be stolen” message. The random steal will still check the weight of the random item and factor that into the success or failure of the steal attempt.
Various Fixes and Updates
These are various fixes to be added to UO:
  • The House Survey Tool will be updated to have the same rulesets apply to the newer models on the survey tool as apply to the older models. This will correct problems in certain specific situations with the newer model surveying.
  • The magical scrolls purchased from NPC shopkeepers in towns will be corrected to function properly.
  • Rideable mounts will have their stamina increased to allow for further distance riding.
  • A fix for mediation, that will prevent players from receiving improper “stopped meditating” messages.
  • Players will be able to perform beneficial acts upon blue human NPC’s in Trammel.

× The surveying tool fix should have come before players got disappointed with being unable to place their houses when housing opened.
× I’m sure I’m not the only one who got a valid message when using the tool only to find the spot does not work with the actual house deed. And then have another player drop a marble shop on top of me.

General Latest Game Update
New character, and (young) player changes
  • “Young” player items will be changed in the following ways:
    • Ranger armor (green armor) will be removed from the “young” player ticket options.
    • In the place of Ranger Armor, “young” players will have the option for a spellbook. This spellbook will contain all of the spells within the first four circles of spellcasting.
  • All newly created character’s starting gold will be increased from 100 gold to 1,000 gold, regardless of the play age of the account they exist on.
Homes :: Info, Options & Commands Lockdown and Secure Changes
Lockdown and Secure Changes
Access to secure containers can now be assigned by the house owner.
  • When a house owner makes a container secure a window will appear with the following options:
    • Accessible by only owners and co-owners.
    • Accessible by only owners, co-owners and friends.
Locking down secure items in houses will change in the following ways:
  • Only the player that locked down an item or the owner of the house will be able to unlock that particular item. This will not change previously locked down items until they become re-locked down.
  • Items on top of or below other locked down items will be accessible.
  • Players will be able to use dyes on any dye tub, including ones that are locked down. However, black dye tubs will no longer be dyeable under any circumstances. This will affect all previous black dye tubs that exist.
  • Keys on a keyring will not count toward the lock down total in a house. The keys within the keyring will not decay, however the keyring itself will still subject to normal decay situations.
  • Players will be able to use any locked down container, except a secure container. Note that items inside of a container cannot be locked down unless the container itself is also locked down. As stated above, locked down items will only be able to be released by the player that locked the item down, or by the owner of the house.
The following items will be useable when locked down:
  • Runes may be used for recalling.
  • Treasure maps may be viewed by anyone.
  • Runebooks will allow recall scrolls to be added by anyone to increase the amount of charges.
  • Visitors to a house will be able to recall to a location from a locked down rune book in that house.
  • Books will be readable by house visitors.
  • Visitors to a house will not be able to scribe text into a locked down purple book.
  • Candelabras and lanterns that are locked down will be operable by the house owner, co-owner, and friends of the house.
  • Musical instruments will be operable.
  • Locked down dyes will be useable on locked down dye tubs (except true black dye tubs which will not be dyeable as described above.)
  • Locked down mugs, glasses and cups, will be useable by anyone.

× An unfortunate (intended?) side-effect of this update is that if your house had lock downs over the limit, the code will automatically unlock random items to put your house within the limit.
× By the time you log in, the items would have already decayed. (Yes, it happened to me.)
Bugs Black Dye Tub Changes & Various Changes and Fixes
  • Players will no longer be able to dye the true black (solid black) dye tubs to another color.
  • Thieves will have a chance to snoop and remain hidden. This will be based on a check against their hiding skill.
    • With 0 hiding, a player will be revealed when failing snooping 100% of the time.
    • With 100 hiding, a player will be revealed 50% of the time when failing snooping.
  • Tamers will be able to loot monsters that their pets kill. The same damage looting rules still apply if other players or creatures are involved in the kill.
  • Human NPC’s in Wind will be able to call for guards if witnessing a criminal action or if noticing a murderer.
  • Boats will not be able to become drydocked unless the boat’s anchor is down.
