Doing the Deed | Lock & Key | Secure House Trading

  • [140601] NPC real estate brokers will now buy house deeds back at 20% below the base price of the deed, or the original price paid when the deed was purchased from a vendor (whichever is lower).
  • House Deeds can be bought from Architect NPCs, which can usually be found in Carpenter shops (I believe all the cities except Cove and Trinsic have Architects). If you want to save a fair amount of money, take a trip down to Felucca and check out the Faction Towns, which may have reduced prices.
  • As the Deed is more than 2,000 gold, the Architect will draw the money directly from your bank.
  • House Deeds are newbie, cannot be stolen and will stay with you should you die.
  • To sell your deed, find a Real Estate Broker, say “Appraise” to him and target your House Deed, he will respond with the price of the deed. Drop the deed on the Broker to sell it, your gold will automatically be deposited in your bank. (Before Bank Checks, this was a good way of transferring large amounts of money between characters.)

Doing the Deed | Lock & Key | Secure House Trading

  • After you place your home, a House Key will appear in your backpack, and another in your bankbox. You are now the Owner of the home.
  • Go in, double-click the key and target the door to lock it. You can lock all the doors inside the larger houses as well.
  • If your door is locked, and you wish to enter, you do not have to use the key on the door. If the key is in your pack, you can double-click the door to open it. The game will give you a message that you quickly unlock and lock the door. The door will be locked when it shuts. Anyone can open the door from the inside.
  • If your home is big enough to have interior doors, you can generate seperate keys for these doors by using your House key on the interior door. An option will appear confirming that you wish to create a lock on that door and an Interior Door key will appear in your backpack, and another in your bankbox. Repeat the process to change the locks on the interior door. You have to double-click your original House key, a keyring with the key on it will not do. (Note that the interior door of the House with Patio, when locked, allows people access all the way into the room behind the counter, and traps them there should the door close. Not exactly useful in a Public House for keeping your possessions safe.)
  • You can purchase blank keys from Provisioners and Tinkers. Double-click a blank key and target the original key to make copies. This checks your Tinkering, a character with 50 Tinkering should succeed most of the time.
  • Remember that your key(s) can be stolen or looted from your corpse should you die.

Doing the Deed | Lock & Key | Secure House Trading

  • [100102] Trading a house to a player who is co-owned to a house will be a two-step process. The receiver will first have to select YES to remove his co-owner status and then the other party will need to initiate the trade again, at which time it will complete normally.
  • [121001] The deed in the trade window which represents the house-to-be-traded will no longer list the house’s name, but will instead list the house type.
  • [121001] Both the buyer and seller must both be within two paces of the house sign in order to initiate the trade.
Secure House Trading [23022k]
Secure house trading will allow players to sell or trade items for houses using the trade window. To trade a house to another player the owner of the house can;
  • Click the “transfer” button in the house options menu.
  • A targeting cursor will appear. The house owner can then target the person they wish to transfer the house to.
  • A trade window will automatically appear.
    • The trade window will contain a deed in the current owner’s portion of the window. This deed is not an actual house deed, but will display the name of the house, the house type, and the sextant coordinates of the house’s location.
    • The other player may then place gold (or other items) into his portion of the window.
    • Once both participants have clicked the gems to agree to the trade, the house will automatically be transferred to the new owner and the deed will delete itself.
    • If the transfer is cancelled, the deed deletes itself and all other items are returned to their owner.
  • You will not be able to transfer a house to a character that already owns a house using this method.
